Hi-End 7 Ply wood – Private specialty

Hi-End 7 Ply wood – Private specialty

The hi-end 7 ply wood is like private specialty, each household have its own recipe. The hi-end 7 Ply wood normally ranked high price and have its own significant characteristic, making it has notable difference with others ordinary blades.  Some of the example of Hi-End 7 Ply Wood blades are Nittaku Barwell, Nittaku Adelie, Stiga Ebenholz NCT VII, Stiga Mapple Wood 7, Cornilleau GA and Darker 7P-2A.

When people talks about 7 ply wood, normally in the minds all the 7 Ply Blades are “Hard”, and the evaluation of 7 ply wood always in terms of its solid feeling and speed of rebound. If Nittaku Ludeack series never has been emerged before, people will not imagine about using “Soft Resilience” to describe 7 ply wood. The Ludeack series instead of making something special on structure design, its focus on the adhesive technology between plies, and developed new type of adhesive method, which emphasis the correlation between each plies wood, this revolution not only enhance it bouncing ability, furthermore reaching the level of “Bounce rather than stiff, Shock rather than vibrate, solid without penetrated”, good hands feeling, subsequently integrated Soft 7 Ply wood looping style characteristic into it. The Adelie-Barwell “Feather” series continue its “Soft Resillence” style, through adjustment on thickness and wood material, becoming the upgraded version of Ludeack series

Nittaku Barwell
Thickness : 6.5 – 7.4mm
Weight: 80 – 89g

The Barwell, thickness about 6.6mm, center core ply thickness increased 0.1mm, outer ply wood changed to Walnut wood, supporting force is stronger than Ludeack series’ Limba outer wood. The hard outer ply has good combination with inner 5 Ayous plies  without any dislocation, overall hardness similar to Ludeack series, may softer than Ludeack Power, sufficient strength, long trajectory, blocking, defense, counter attack is more reliable than Adelie, the Barwel blade belongs to power playing style.

Nittaku Adelie
Thickness: 6.0-6.4 mm
Weight : 80-89g

Adelie, thickness is about 6.2mm, shown impressive performance for strong underspin control and topspin counterattack. Compare to Ludeack series and Barwell, Adelie is more emphasis on partially blade deformation, easy to control and less return mistake. When applying full strength, you will feel more stiffness than others Ludeack series, far away from table shown more stable ball trajectory, overall hands feeling overcome Ludeack series.

7 Ply Wood Blade – The Public Lover

7 Ply Wood Blade – The Public Lover
7 Ply wood blade’s has many layers, theoretically the structure combination has bigger variation than others 5 and 3 plywood blade; no matter how its change, the balance between softness and hardness always be the key factor. According to classification, 7 ply wood blade development has 3 stages:
1st stage: Traditional Hard 7 Ply Wood – emphasis on speed and power, CL, P700 are the typical representative.
2nd stage: Soft 7 Ply Wood – thin thickness, lightweight, overall characteristic tends to be soft, good in looping, the typical example are PPP and YE7.
3rd stage: Soft 7 Ply wood with Hard style or Hard 7 ply wood with soft style – especially in water base glue era, the number of design using harder outer ply blade has been increasing, toward balancing, the trends becoming “Hard outer ply combined Soft inner ply”, the typical representative from this group are Ovtcharov Senso and YES.
The development of 7 Ply wood blade history was from hard to soft, gradually switching toward “Hard outer ply with soft innerply” design, the balance of this paradigm shift is according to the table tennis rules and regulation development, because of this changes, the characteristic differences between 5 Ply Blade and 7 Ply Blade has been increasing.

Tips: Why some of the 7 Ply blade has 2 obvious red lines?
The two red lines design is nothing to do with characteristic, mainly just for appearance, this design was began from Stiga CL blade. This is difference with Fiber ply which its color shown is actually its origin color.

Donic Ovtcharov Senso – Instant Celebrities
This blade was born in 2009, gradually gaining attention from the world after Dimitrij Ovtcharov recently outstanding performance. Outer ply is Walnut wood, inner 3 plys are Ayous wood, middle soft, one of the typical pioneer designs for “Hard outer ply with soft inner ply”. Although this is a star endorsement blade, however the price is reasonable, its characteristic of this blade is easy to use, quite balance, close and middle table attack and defense, still powerfull when far away from table, you won’t find obvious disadvantage from this blade.

Butterfly Timo Boll W7 – Restore Hard 7 Ply Wood Style
Compare to its development in Fiber technology, Butterfly do not makes big development in 7 Ply wood, the W7 is a traditional Hard 7 Ply, thickness is about 7.0mm, weight seldom lower than 90g, Koto outer ply + 5 ply Ayous wood, overall hardness comparative with Stiga CL blade, the main focus for this blade is “Speed”. For those who like traditional hard 7 ply, you may try W7.

Nittaku Septear Blade Review

Nittaku's are well knowns for its capability in making finest table tennis blade, regardless previous Violin, Acoustic series or latest Barwell and Adelie series, there are all arts. However, Hinoki wood racket is already an art, and this has illustrated by Septear.
7 Ply purely Hinoki Wood blade is quite rare in the market, this is because of its material cost is high; normaly manufacturer will use Hinoki as outer ply which they can sell it with highest price, secondly it is not easy to make a good hinoki blade and really test the maker's capability.
Septear is a Soft 7 Ply, sharp feel, larger deformation and dwell time and long trajectory which inheret Hinoki wood's special "explosive fast" feel. Good in continuous looping game and easy control.
